I am looking for a photo/slide scanner for my dad, how wants to archive old family photos. I am looking for info on what to buy and what performance qualities to look for. (resolution, etc)

I found some slides of a woman's travels in the late 50s and 60s a few years ago and finally purchased a scanner attachment for my camera to scan them in. I'd like to make them into a book, or sell prints. I'm not sure what to do now... (any pointers to good websites would be nice).... She went to Korea (or Asia- not sure what country), tropical places, state parks... and took pictures of everything...! I'm excited- just wish I could place some of these things. She was a pretty good photographer.

I've now got my mum's and my uncle's slides which I want to put onto CD or in a file on the computer. Can I do it myself using an ordinary scanner? (which does photos, documents etc.) or do I have to buy a special scanner to attach to my computer to do this? I found one answer that has a slide scanner which you attach to your digital camera. But I don't have one of those cameras. Many thanks for your help. I am a bit concerned that if I sent them all away through a Photo place something might happen to all those precious memories of my mum and my uncle - who are now deceased. Many thanks Mary.

I have seen flatbed scanners that claim they can scan slides, I have also seen high dollar scanners for slides only. My family's history was captured by my Dad on slides and I am looking to convert them to digital images. There are so many that paying someone to do it would run into the thousands of dollars. Would the flatbed scanner do the job for me or do I have to invest big dollars in the slide scanner
